This is NOT a sports episode! While I love OU and could talk about it for hours1 I realize this is not the platform. If you are new or don’t remember, my first post on Substack was actually about my relationship with OU football. I linked the article below for reference.
While Sooner Sports provides the vehicle that is driving
to start a new podcast, her desire to build an authentic community for women takes center stage. This episode truly demonstrates aligning your passion and your purpose. In this engaging conversation, Larissa Holquin of Sooner Girl Sports Pod, joins me to explore the themes of personal growth, passion projects, and the evolving landscape of sports media. We discuss the importance of authenticity, the challenges of navigating identity beyond traditional roles, and the impact of social media on community building. The conversation also touches on the significance of women's sports, coaching dynamics, and the personal connections that fans have with their teams.
Emphasis is placed on the need for women to support each other and create spaces where they can express their passions and interests freely. We also both share a mutual dislike of the color orange and hope our teams get it together soon! It’s all out of love while stepping into the arena to create the spaces we crave.
Journal Prompts & Reflection:
Where can you find a space that your purpose and passion align?
Where do you show up as your authentic self?
Is there a longing or calling deep inside of you, that if you don’t follow you will look back and think why didn’t I do this sooner2 ?
Challenge:
Put yourself out there, be seen, and take up space!
If a community that aligns with your passions doesn’t exist, create the space!
If you are in the area, go support OU Athletics! Fan support for basketball is minimal compared to other SEC schools. That doesn’t help recruit!
