SPLIT Happens

How to Advocate For Yourself Through Divorce, Court, and Chaos

Blame it on the long weekend, my birthday, college football kickoff, or the impending doom I feel daily just trying to survive three jobs in a world gone mad, but I am way off on getting the show notes out this week. What I am working on….not living by a ritualistic schedule and just being human. While that sounds nice, it makes me feel awful. When I get out of routine and enjoy life, it is hard for me to get back on track. It is actually a very unsobering feeling to me. I thrive off the productivity hits. I recently discovered I have 71 drafts in my Substack folder. 71!!!! So we’ll hit send and get it down to 70 and not think about it until the weekend, because on Wednesdays, I watch my shows. Any other folks in midlife making this The Summer a Teen Drama and a cartoon that first aired when I was still a teen as your means of surviving an anxious world?

What do you do when life completely falls apart, and you have no idea what comes next?

In this week’s episode of Midlife Catalyst, I sit down with Naomi Cao, a divorce coach and single mom of three, who shares how she picked up the pieces after her 17-year marriage ended without warning. There was no plan, no safety net, just her, her kids, and a lot of uncertainty.

But what makes Naomi’s story so powerful is what she chose to do with it. Instead of staying stuck in survival mode, she found strength by helping others. She started support groups for single parents that now serve thousands, and she built a community rooted in kindness, connection, and paying it forward.

Midlife...Don't Call it a Crisis is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

This isn’t a story about having it all figured out. It’s about starting where you are, doing what you can, and remembering that SPLIT Happens and even the smallest act of support can change a life, including your own.

If you're navigating a major life shift or just feeling a little lost in the chaos of midlife, this conversation is for you. Naomi reminds us that we don’t have to go through it alone, and that sometimes, helping someone else is the first step toward healing ourselves.
