Saturday SnowDay Summary
Still talking about the Super Bowl with Six Reflections, along with Sober Milestones and Recommendation Lists
In my angst to get MMQB out while the topic was trending…newsflash, it’s still trending, I missed a few key concepts from Super Bowl Sunday:
The Eagles- I am happy for them. I have nothing against them. Two of their best players are Sooners, and I love AJ Brown. I like the city of Philly, so I can say I’m glad that they won. I actually feel a bit sorry for them because the halftime show pretty much overshadowed their dominant performance.
AJ Brown- Yet again, speaking the truth that resonated deeply with me. “I thought my hard work would be justified by winning it all. It wasn’t.” It was short-lived, two days to be exact. He’s talking about the journey over the actual victory. I remember failures more than I remember success. I also remember every negative thing someone says to me over every positive. Failure is what fuels me to keep going, the longing for more, the desire for continual improvement. It’s also utterly exhausting, but I think it’s the difference between winning and being a champion. How do you respond when something you desperately want doesn’t bring the happiness you thought it would? When is it enough, and when does the continual longing for more cease? This topic could be a post in itself and maybe even a book!
Serena- I talked about goats but failed to mention the appearance by the greatest of all! Olympia’s mom looked pretty darn fit and happy to me! She makes retirement look good.
Samuel L. Jackson- I can’t believe I missed this one because we talked about Pulp Fiction before the game started. He is the goat of everything! I will watch anything he is in1, but “Say What Again” is undeniably the best scene in acting history. This is hands down my favorite movie; We used to watch it on party nights in college, and the soundtrack was our getting ready jam before going out to the bars. To be considered on my top movie list, you must have a killer soundtrack and a diabolic diatribe by Mr. Jackson. Enter your favorite movie in the comment section below.
Kendrick’s Jeans- The halftime show is so trending that the Celine jeans Kendrick wore have sold out and been declared the fashion trend of 2025. I’m all for the baggy jeans trend to make a comeback. I read that his are $1300, so I will dig through my storage boxes to see if I have kept any of mine. This is why I hate downsizing. I had a great $30 pair in high school that I kept for a good 15 years after.
Speaking of Sober Folks- I was sitting in a sobriety meeting Monday evening, and it dawned on me that this was my fifth sober Super Bowl. That’s a huge win! Of those five, my team has played in four games. Winning two and losing two. Here’s the remarkable part: there would have been double losses in the past. This means that my team would lose, and I would go on a bender to chase the loss, resulting in an even bigger loss of time, money, and dignity. Accepting a loss without creating a bigger one is a great feat for me as a die-hard competitor and sports fan. Realizing the outcome of a game doesn’t dictate my worth or happiness is huge progress. I had a great writing session on Monday morning and enjoyed a remarkable day, hitting all of my habit tracker markers. Me hitting the pillow sober for the last five Super Bowls is more historic than a three-peat.
The memes have been top-notch! Valentine’s Day Playlist
I hit another milestone this week with five sober Valentine’s Days! Historically, this day has been a doozy. I’ve typically managed to sabotage my life enough to time a break-up where I’ve not been in a relationship or celebrated the Hallmark Day, so I’ve spent plenty of time numbing the loneliness. This year, I attended two sobriety meetings2, handed out hearts by liking a lot of notes on Substack, indulged in cute chocolate, and spent the day writing while staring out the window appreciating the squirrels running through the glistening snow3 . No new destruction was had, and I woke to a new day with a clear head ready to write.
Celebrating no double losses with a winning playlist!
Benable
My friend Meg has the best recommendations for new things, and this one is a game changer. I’ve taken my Vegas food musts and put them here Benable Link. More trip recs to follow; this is currently my writing distraction!

Double wins
It’s too cold to go outside and it’s going to take weeks to melt due to the below freezing temps.
Great read! Ty
