Monday Morning Quarterback
Groundhog Day, America Down Under, and a Summary of the Week in Sports
Send me a message to receive the details to join this live event. I will NOT be going live on Meta as originally planned so this is an experiment in itself. I want everyone to have access to join, while feeling safety in doing so. Sports are the greatest examples of how laser focused you have to be on habit building because there is such a narrow gap in being successful and being a legend.
Aussie Open
I was so elated by Madison’s victory that I couldn’t wait to write about it so you can read about my response here Dig Deeper. Sports prepared me for how to handle success along with the bigger defeats and disappointments that come if you dare to show up and play the game of life. My frustration with the Australian Open is it gets us excited about tennis and we have to wait four more months for another major. It’s truly become the sport that plays year round. It will be strange to see the French Open without the King of Clay and it appears that the reign of the Big 3 in men’s tennis has come to a close. It’s a new era that so far I’m pretty uninterested in watching.
NFL
Jerry, seriously WTF! Several of the head coaching hires made this week were head scratchers but his was downright stupid. But really it’s on brand for him, he didn’t want a head coach, he wanted a puppet. For those questioning why I care, I do frequently have to remind folks that I lived in DFW for 12 years and I hate to see some of my favorite players be involved in whatever stubborn old age crisis1 we are witnessing.
My love affair with AJ Brown came to a halt yesterday, now I need someone to steal his book and leave it on the shelf for the next two weeks. The Super Bowl is going to be an intense matchup of the two best teams in the NFL.
The difference in two personalities: Chris Jones being moved to tears2 for all the world to see is living authentically in the moment. He truly understands the magnitude and is appreciating every second and every play of every game. Tyreek Hill is the most scorned ex in the game, playing out his drama on TV for all the world to see. He didn’t recognize and appreciate what he had and I highly doubt he will ever get that back!
College Hoops
I got my fill this weekend. We are hitting prime season, that was apparent by multiple overtime games and upsets. The pattern has been if I shout out a team they lose, so lets see if this holds true. The most impressive coaching job of January goes to Rodney Terry of texas. I thought he was on the hot seat to start he year and he has this team trending in the right direction, pulling off some major wins. The key in the SEC is who’s tough enough to survive and so far texas is surviving games they really have no business winning. Other teams up the road can’t say that. OU might have saved a coach and Arkansas might have should have passed on a coach. February will be the month of great separation and I’m afraid much like football, the SEC schedule is brutal and teams may bounce early come March.
What in the world is going on in Nashville?!?! Vandy is competitive in football and basketball. The parity in college basketball is unmatched, this March Madness is shaping up to be historic and stay tuned for next week’s podcast with my great friend and guy I call Santa Claus as we break down why March is truly The Most Wonderful Time of the Year! He’s a Swiftie so it’s more than sports!
CFP
Was that just a week ago?!? Feels like a month at least. For Michigan fans if it’s any solace, Ohio State winning the natty was definitely not the worst thing that happened on Monday. I can confidently say that if texas had made it and won. That’s how life changes your perspective on sports. There are bigger and worse things than the outcome of a game. I’ve only come to realize that in the last decade, 8, okay five years.
Bye for now, I’m not sure that I will go back. The money grab of the NIL is running equivalent with the Big Tech Bro games that are being played. I don’t blame the players, the deserve to be compensated and it’s been long overdue. It’s similar to running an on-line business, you have to play the game and engage in the platforms but it just feels sleezy and inauthentic. People buy college teams like influencers buy followers these days!
Conclusion of the week…I know nothing about sports but they teach me a lot about life. What lessons are you learning from the sports world this week?
Is this what I have to look forward to when I get through this stage of life?
I still think part of this is due to the bitter cold in KC. I too get tears streaming when I walk outside here in the winter.
